Burglar taunts victim
A man who broke into a woman's bedroom and stole her mobile phone and some cash later taunted her and threatened to come back and visit her, the Xinan Evening News reports. The woman sent a text to her phone after it was taken from her home in Qingyang county near Chizhou and the thief called her back. He ridiculed her for sleeping so deeply, allowing him to take the handset and 4,000 yuan (HK$5,000). He said he would like to date her and would visit her later. The man broke into her home by cutting through iron bars on a window. He hid under the bed when he heard the woman return. He was later arrested.
More bikes for rent
A bicycle rental scheme in Hefei is to be extended to the Binhu district of the city, the news website Anhuinews.com reports. Ninety rental stations will be opened, with up to 3,000 bikes for hire. There are already about 1,000 bicycle rental stations in the city.

Lovelorn man, 65, held
A 65-year-old man from Daqing was detained by the police for harassing and chasing a woman down the street who had previously spurned his advances, the news website Dbw.cn reports. The single man had been fond of the widowed woman for years and after drinking he tried to hug her and she fled. He was later released by the police and his son has apologised to the woman.
Fleeing from the cold
Pensioners from the province are joining the increasing numbers of elderly spending the winter in the Hainan resort of Sanya to avoid the long cold months in the north, Xinhua reports. The report described the old people as "migrant birds" who leave their homes in October to head for the southern island holiday destination. There are so many people from Heilongjiang in Sanya that they have formed their own association. The media in Hainan reported last month that so many elderly migrants live in the province over the winter that they are driving up property prices.

Give a dog a bad name
Two feuding families living next door to each other in Wuhan have named their pet dogs after the children of their neighbours, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. One of them, an old woman, bought a dog two weeks ago and called it Hanhan, the nickname of a little girl of her neighbour. Several days later, her neighbour bought a dog and called it Yuanyuan, the woman's granddaughter's nickname. The older woman said she suspected her neighbour had stolen her key left in her lock a month ago.
Pledge to cut red tape
The government in Huanggang has pledged to cut red tape and bureaucracy, the Hubei Daily reports. The move comes after a technology company said it spent four years getting approval from 15 departments to build a factory.

Trial over cancer drugs
A couple in Nanjing has stood trial for selling unlicensed cancer-treating drugs online, the Modern Express reports. The husband has worked in India for a telecommunications company since 2010 and saw there was a demand on the mainland for medication sold on the subcontinent. A verdict has yet to be announced.
Leaving it later to wed
People in the province are getting married for the first time at an older age, the Modern Express reports. The average age to get married in Jiangsu is now just over 31. Two years ago it was just over 29½. The report said social and economic changes meant people were marrying later.

Pupils crammed in bus
Parents in Shangrao county have complained that a minivan that is supposed to carry a maximum of seven people has been crammed with more than 20 children to take them to their kindergarten each day, the news website Jxnews.com.cn reports. A primary school overseeing the nursery school said its initial investigation found the van was not owned by the kindergarten and some parents had hired the driver.
Pay bills, officials told
Government officials and staff at state-owned companies in Shangrao county will be censured at work if they do not pay their home's property management fees, the news website Chinanews.com reports. Property management companies said more people in the area were not paying their bills on time.

Missing boy found
A 12-year-old boy who went missing for a week after his teacher threw him out of class for not doing his homework has been found, the Shanghai Morning Post reports. The boy was traced to a playground at a shopping mall in the Xuhui district of the city. The boy only had 1.5 yuan and he said he had eaten free food given away as samples at department stores and slept near an indoor sports stadium.
Fee to take photos
Photographers and young couples have complained they have to pay 200 yuan each time to take wedding photos near a housing complex around Meilan Lake in the city, the news website Xinmin.cn reports. If they do not pay up, women hired by a property developer stand next to them to ruin the pictures. The developer said it has invested to build Swedish-style homes in the area and it is entitled to charge fees for people taking advantage of the views.

Bigger families on way
Couples who are taking advantage of the relaxed one-child policy rules will have about a third of a million babies in the province next year, the West China City Daily reports. If one person in a couple is an only child they can have more than one baby after the regulations were loosened by the central government. About 1.9 million couples in the province are eligible to have a second child.
Jealousy acid attack
A man was arrested in Dazhou after allegedly spraying sulphuric acid over family members of his girlfriend, the West China City Daily reports. The couple were both married when they met in 2009, but he became angry when she started dating other men. She refused to stop and he took two knives, a hammer, pesticide and the acid to her home with the aim of killing her and then himself. The woman, her husband and their daughter were injured. The man was subdued by her husband.

Nuisance to firefighters
Only about a tenth of the 1,000 phone calls made on average to firefighters in Hangzhou each day are genuine emergencies, the Zhejiang Daily reports. The rest are either nuisance calls or wrong numbers. One of the prank calls was made by a man posing as a child to say there was a fire at his home. Firefighters spent two hours searching for the blaze before realising it was a hoax.
Big plastic bears stolen
Two foreigners, one American and the other French, were caught trying to put three large public statues of bears into their car in Ningbo , the Modern Gold News reports. The statues were about 1.2 metres high and made of plastic. The men in their 20s said they were drinking beer in a bar nearby and were told by a Korean friend that the bar's owner wanted to give them the statues as a gift. The report did not say if they had been charged.
