A man has been jailed for stealing from dormitories at a military camp in Xiamen , the news website Fjsen.com reports. He got in by climbing a tree and jumping over a fence. The man was later caught by security guards. He had taken about 11,000 yuan (HK$13,900). He was jailed for nine months and fined 1,000 yuan.
Farmland built over
Police in Fuzhou are investigating a logistics company after it ignored a court order to pull down 21 storage buildings it put up illegally on agricultural land, Fuzhou Daily reports. A number of officials at the company have been detained by the police. A court has told the village authority in the area to demolish the buildings.

HK street racers held
Shenzhen police have detained 13 people from Hong Kong and seized 12 sports cars used to race on the city's streets, Southern Daily reports. The group, aged between 36 and 62, told the police they had applied for temporary licence plates to drive on the mainland because the roads were wider and traffic rules were not as strict as in Hong Kong. They were arrested on Wednesday after two people complained to the police about cars with Hong Kong number plates racing at speeds of over 200km/h. The drivers are accused of endangering public safety.
Nanny kidnaps child
A woman who used a fake identity to be hired as a nanny in Guangzhou and then kidnapped the little boy in her care has been jailed for 10½ years, the Information Times reports. A court heard that the woman snatched the toddler on her second day in the job when she was left alone with the boy. She demanded 1 million yuan for his return. She was arrested two days later in Gaoyao after several rounds of negotiations with the boy's mother. The boy was safely returned.

Racked up debt on card
A man running a clothing business in Liuzhou was detained by the police after he withdrew 880,000 yuan from his bank using a platinum credit card and then failed to pay it back, the news website Chinanews.com.cn reports. He took out the cash after his business started losing money four years ago, but never made good on the debt. The bank involved was not named in the report.
Miserly husband sued
A man in Nanning has been ordered by a court to put 620,000 yuan into his wife's bank account after she sued him for being too mean, the news website Gxnews.com.cn reports. The woman said the couple had been married for many years and her husband always kept tight control over all their finances. He even failed to pay her medicals bills. The court told the husband to split the couple's total bank deposits of over 1.2 million yuan in half.

Roadside cleaner killed
A street cleaner was killed in Wuhan after she was hit by a car and a minibus on an elevated highway, the Changjiang Times reports. The woman, 52, was cleaning on the roadside when a car struck her and threw her into the opposite lane. She was then hit by the minibus.
Rude woman rebuked
A young woman in Huangshi has won praise on social media for taking her seat back on a bus after a pregnant woman failed to say thank you when she was offered a place to sit, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. A widely shared post on social media said the pregnant woman sat down with a stony face and without saying a word when offered a place, the report said.

Pig eats boy, 2
A two-year-old boy has been eaten by a pig in a village near Xuzhou , the City Morning Post reports. The boy was playing near his home when he was attacked by the animal, which belonged to a neighbour. The report quoted police as saying forensic scientists had found some of the boy's hair and part of his skull in the pig's stomach. A vet said such cases were rare and the pig may have attacked the boy because it was pregnant and more aggressive.
Pyramid scheme arrests
Police in Nantong have detained 81 suspects in a crack down on a pyramid selling scam involving over 80 million yuan, the Jiangnan Times reports. Police said about 300 people were involved in the scheme, most of whom were elderly people.

Teacher badly burned
A university teacher in the city was attacked with boiling water after he mocked a student for turning up late for class, the Southern Metropolis News reports. The girl showed up late for a lesson at the East China University of Political Science and Law on Tuesday and the teacher joked that she would never be admitted for postgraduate studies. She later offered to get him a drink and poured the hot water over his face when she returned. He suffered serious facial burns. She said the teacher had cursed her so she would not let him see "the sunshine tomorrow".
Smoker locked up
A man has been put in criminal detention for five days for smoking at a subway station and refusing to stub out the cigarette, the news website Xinmin.cn reports. He was caught smoking in a passageway in Yishan Road station. He refused to put out the cigarette because there were no no-smoking signs in the area. Police said 409 people had been punished for smoking on the subway so far this year in the city, including 21 who were put in detention.

NZ opens consulate
New Zealand opened its fourth consulate on the mainland in Chengdu on Wednesday, the West China City Daily reports. The office will cover Sichuan , Guizhou , Yunnan and Chongqing .
Fatal knife attack
Police in Dazhu county have arrested a man for attacking his girlfriend and her parents with a knife, killing the mother, the West China City Daily reports. The young couple had been going out for two years but the girlfriend's parents disapproved of their relationship. The boyfriend attacked the family with a 30cm-long knife. The father and daughter were in a stable condition in hospital.

Serial traffic offender
The owner of an electric car in Dongyang has allegedly violated traffic rules 179 times over the past 1½ years, the Qianjiang Evening News reports. The owner, a 47-year-old housewife, was caught on Wednesday driving without a licence on her way to pick up her son from school. She faces 10 days in criminal detention and fines totalling about 24,000 yuan.
Pay row fires up 'arsonist'
A man in Yongkang has been arrested for arson after allegedly setting fire to his former employers' business because they had not paid him money they owed, the Qianjiang Evening News reports. He quit his job at a door manufacturer in late August but was unable to get his wages for that month. The man, 30, allegedly lit half a barrel of paint thinner, setting fire to the business and a nearby factory. The blaze caused over 1 million yuan in damage. He was arrested by the police in Yuyao after he was involved in another dispute.
