Selfie stops trains
Two trains were forced to apply their emergency brakes in Wuhu after a college student stood on the track to take "selfies", China Daily reports. The 22-year-old man posed on the rail line and waited for a train to come to take photographs of himself with rolling stock in the background. He refused to get out of the way until the train was 50 metres away. He later posted the photos online, drawing widespread criticism from internet users. Police said they were investigating the case.
Guard dies after insult
The province's education bureau has suspended a woman official after she called a security guard a "house dog" and he then collapsed and died, the China News Service reports. The woman shouted at the 63-year-old guard after he stopped her as she was entering a residential building in Hefei . He died later in hospital. The official is helping with the police investigation, according to the report.

Newlywed found dead
A woman was found dead in a fishpond just days after she got married, the New Express reports. The woman came from a village near Jiangmen and her husband said the last time he saw her she was going to her parents' house. It is a local tradition for a bride to visit her parents on the third day after a wedding. Her body was found five days later about 1km from her home. Police are investigating. The report did not say how the woman died.
Road crash lawsuit
The family of a man who was severely injured in a road accident is suing the driver of a truck for 2 million yuan (HK$2.5 million), the New Express reports. The man was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle when the vehicle was hit by two trucks in Foshan . The man suffered brain damage and became blind in one eye.
HENAN
Battered by estate agents
A 66-year-old cleaner was seriously injured when he was attacked by a group of estate agents in Zhengzhou during an argument, the Zhengzhou Evening News reports. The cleaner had asked them to move their electric bikes so he could clean an area of the street. Passers-by stopped the fight and called the police, the report said.
Taking aim at bus stations
Several newly built bus stations in Zhengzhou have been damaged by steel pellets from a firearm, the Zhengzhou Evening News reports. An employee at the bus company said at least seven large, glass windows were destroyed. The bus company reported the attacks to the police.
HUNAN
Cops jailed over bribes
Three police officers in Lengshuijiang , including a member of a SWAT team, have been jailed for releasing suspects in exchange for bribes, The Beijing News reports. The trio released two people after receiving 35,000 yuan and cigarettes. They were given jail terms ranging from one to two years. They were caught after they argued over how to split the bribes and two of them reported the third. They were all later arrested, the report said.
Caring scavenger
An elderly woman who scavenges for rubbish for a living has taken in and cared for 10 abandoned babies over the past 15 years, the news website Rednet.cn reports. The woman, who is in her 80s and comes from Lengshuijiang, is looking after two disabled children. Six of the other youngsters she cared for have been adopted and the local authority is looking after the other two. The elderly woman said she had no family of her own.

Teacher 'insulted class'
A parent who recorded his son's lesson to help with his homework discovered that the child's teacher repeatedly insulted and cursed his class, the Liaoshen Evening News reports. Parents of the children in Shenyang were horrified and approached the newspaper to help resolve the situation. They were afraid the teacher would take it out on their children if they approached the school. The teacher denied abusing the children, saying she was just impatient. The parent recorded the lesson by putting a device in his son's pencil case.
Plan to kill ex-wife
A man from Shenyang has been jailed for 15 years for planning to kill his ex-wife because she refused to remarry him, the Liaoshen Evening News reports. The couple divorced in a scam to ensure they were eligible to buy more public housing but she later refused to get back together with him.

School pupils smacked
Children claim a primary school teacher smacked the pupils in her class if they did not get 90 per cent or more in their mid-term Putonghua exam, The Beijing News reports. One pupil said dozens of children in the class at a school in Dali county near Weinan were struck. An official at the school said the teacher had punished children for making repeated errors in their work. The school has paid pupils compensation and publicly criticised the teacher.
Decorating row
A decorating project at a residential building in Baoji has stopped at the second floor because officials said they would not have time to inspect any of the higher storeys, the Huashang Daily reports. Decorators said they were given explicit instructions to only paint the first two floors. Residents are furious, saying 20 years has passed since the last renovations at the block.
XINJIANG
Nervy driver flips car
A car flipped over on a highway between Urumqi and Turpan because the driver was nervous about driving a manual vehicle, the Xinjiang Metropolis Daily reports. She rolled the car over as she was making a turn. She and her passenger escaped without serious injury. She has been driving for two years, but always in an automatic.
Burglars' knife 'threat'
A gang of thieves broke into a man's house in Urumqi, took 20,000 yuan worth of his belongings and left a knife on his bed, the Xinjiang Metropolis Daily reports. The flat owner believes the weapon was a threat from the burglars. He discovered the break-in after he got back from work. Several other flats in the block were also burgled.
YUNNAN
Damages case dismissed
A court has dismissed a damages suit by the children of a 67-year-old man who collapsed and died on a bus as it suddenly braked hard, the Metropolis Times reports. The man's children said the bus driver violated traffic rules as he tried to race for a traffic light. They had demanded 640,000 yuan in compensation from the bus company. The court in Kunming ruled that the driver was not entirely at fault for the death of the man as another car was also involved.
Row over dog on bus
A woman in Kunming held up a bus for 30 minutes as she argued with the driver about bringing her dog on board, the Yunnan Information Daily reports. The driver told her the animal was not allowed to travel and she demanded her 1 yuan fare back. Several angry passengers offered her the money so she would get off but she refused to take it. Surveillance footage showed her shouting and arguing with other passengers before she finally left.
