A security guard at a residential compound in the capital and his wife were attacked by at least five people after the guard stopped a man from urinating in public, The Beijing News reports. Witnesses said there was a public toilet less than 20 metres away from the building but the man refused to go there. After the guard tried to stop him, the man called over another three men and two women and they pushed the couple against a wall and hit and kicked them for at least two minutes. Residents called the police.
A couple from Sichuan have gone on trial in Shunyi district for selling three of their five children, the Beijing Times reports. They could not afford to raise the children and were caught by police in Beijing as they tried to sell the youngest child, a baby girl, for 7,000 yuan (HK$8,800). Two other people who were involved in the case were earlier sentenced to six and five years in jail for child trafficking.
