Policeman took bribes
A policeman in Guangzhou has turned himself in to prosecutors after he took bribes to turn a blind eye to the operations of a blackmailing gang, the New Express reports. The officer discovered the gang's crimes, but they paid him 25,000 yuan (HK$31,500) to keep silent. The gang was later broken up by other officers and the policeman decided to confess. He faces corruption charges.
Bomb hoaxers arrested
Two men in Foshan were arrested after lying that they had put a bomb on the subway system the New Express reports. The men were flirting with a member of staff on the subway, asking for her mobile number, but when she appeared disinterested they made up the bomb hoax. She took it seriously and contacted the police. The men have been detained for disturbing social order.

Grandmother dumped
A man from Luohe involved in a dispute with a car dealer took his ailing grandmother to the business and left her there to embarrass and shame them into action, the Dahe Daily reports. The man had bought an 80,000 yuan car from the dealer, but it was destroyed in a fire. He thought the firm was not helping him enough with his insurance claim and dumped his 84-year-old relative at the store. Police later took her home. The dealer has promised to help with the insurance.
Gold to find lost dog
A man in Zhengzhou has offered 20 grams of gold for assistance in finding his lost golden retriever, the Zhengzhou Evening News reports. The man has raised the 13-year-old dog since it was a puppy and he thinks it has been stolen. The dog requires medication and the owner fears it will die if it does not receive its monthly injection.

Harassing calls
A car rental company in Anlu has received constant harassing phone calls, along with demands for cash to end the abuse, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. On one day the firm received 338 calls within two hours. The owner of the company said men had been in contact to demand cash to end the calls. Police are trying to trace the extortionists.
Security guard row
A security guard in Wuhan sued his own company after he had to pay compensation for attacking somebody at work, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. The guard paid 60,000 yuan after he broke a resident's hand during an argument. He had refused to open a gate to let the person into a housing a complex. His security company refused to reimburse him. A court rejected the guard's civil action for damages against the company, saying he was responsible for the attack and should carry the blame.

Rescued from mugger
Three students came to the rescue of a woman who was mugged in Yangzhou , the Modern Express reports. The woman came out of a public toilet and was dragged by a stranger into the men's section. He started to search her purse and she shouted for help. The students heard and came to her aid. The mugger has been arrested.
House collapses
Nine construction workers were rescued after the temporary two-floor house they were living in collapsed, the news website People.com.cn reports. The building in Changzhou was badly damaged during heavy rain. Two people had to be freed with cutting equipment. The workers suffered only minor injuries.

Hit by bank red tape
A woman from Changchun cannot access her dead son's bank account because she does not have the right paperwork to prove their relationship, the Xinwen Huabao reports. The son died from liver cancer and his 60-year-old mother discovered there was 1,900 yuan in his account and she wanted to withdraw it. The bank asked her to present a death certificate, a will and a proof of their mother-son relationship. Police at a nearby station said they would help her.
'Raped' disabled girl
City prosecutors in Jilin are to press charges against a 58-year-old man who allegedly raped a 15-year-old mentally disabled girl, the news website Shjnet.cn reports. The family saw the girl was behaving strangely and found out about the attack. They reported it to the police. The man confessed that he went to the girl's home when her parents were away.

Wrong medicine row
A woman in Fuping county near Weinan is in dispute with a hospital after it gave her the wrong medicine, the Huashang Daily reports. She took it four times and said it gave her severe stomach pains and headaches. The hospital has refused to give compensation and she may take legal action.
Central heating dispute
More than 4,000 people living in a residential compound in Xianyang have complained because their central heating has yet to be turned on, the Xianyang Today reports. The management company said some residents have not paid their heating fee. Police are mediating in the dispute. The management company will probably modify the system so it can shut off the heat to people who have not paid up.

Drugs gang busted
Police in Ziyang have broken up a gang producing drugs in nearby mountains, the West China City Daily reports. Seven men were alleged to be in charge of 17 workers making the stimulant ephedrine. They had produced about 250 tonnes. Police received a tip-off from villagers that there were strange sounds and smoke coming from a house. Police raided the building and the gang was arrested.
Jailed for taking bribes
Four officials in Nanchong have been jailed for received bribes during a demolition project, the West China City Daily reports. The four took more than 400,000 yuan from a construction company. They were given jail terms ranging from six to 12 years.

Abductions thwarted
Police in Yiwu have arrested three men who tried to abduct two teenage girls, the Qianjiang Evening News reports. The men were spotted as they drove off in a car and police gave chase. The suspects were arrested after police fired warning shots into the air. The police investigation continues.
Glamorous butcher
Photographs of a glamorous butcher in Hangzhou have attracted attention and comment on the internet, Xinhua reports. The woman, aged 28, dresses in fashionable clothes and wears a lot of make-up while selling pork at her stall. She has run her business for six years.
