A former reporter for state television is on trial in the capital accused of fraud, the Beijing Times reports. Zhao Jicheng is accused of taking 8.5 million yuan (HK$10.7 million) from victims after he posed as the director of the state broadcaster's online news section and promised to improve their ties with the station. He is accused of 18 offences. On one occasion he is said to have taken 3.3 million yuan. Zhao used to be a reporter on a legal programme on the network. A verdict has yet to be announced.

Police in the capital's Fangshan district have posted a public notice warning the public to ignore a bogus rumour circulating online that a three-year-old girl is missing and her family have issued a reward for her return, the Beijing Youth Daily reports. Police have received calls about the report, which promises a reward of up to 500,000 yuan.
