A five-year-old boy nearly got himself in hot water when he took on the role of environmental protector at a train station, Ahwang.cn reports. The boy was waiting with his parents for their train when an unnamed man threw his empty instant noodle container on the ground. The boy lectured the man about disposing of garbage properly, but the man just yelled back at him. When the boy began to cry, railway police stepped in, rewarded him for his initiative and castigating the man for being a litterbug.
Official hangs himself
Wu Tiezhu, the party secretary of Siqian township in Taihu county, hanged himself on Tuesday, Xinhua reports. The local public security bureau said Wu ended his life due to family misfortunes and mental stress.

Driver jailed for rape
A man has been jailed for four years and nine months for raping a drunken woman, the Beijing Times  reports. In June, the man saw a drunken woman trying to hail a cab in Miyun county, northeast Beijing at 3am. Assuming she was a prostitute, he offered her a ride in his car. Halfway through the ride, he stopped the car and asked her for sex. When she refused, he beat her, raped her, and left her on the side of the road. Police arrested the man in July.
Dentist abandons patients
Patients at an orthodontic clinic in Haidian district were left half-treated after their dentist disappeared with their money, the Beijing Times reports. The patients, who paid a total of 20,000 yuan (HK$25,000), were in the middle of their treatments when the dentist disappeared. Phone calls to his office were not returned and his mobile phone was disconnected. The clinic is investigating the matter, according to the report.
 
GUANGDONG
Cancer linked to fast food
Doctors say that a young man in Shantou who ate only fast food has contracted colorectal cancer at age 23, the  Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. Two years ago, the patient began having bouts of diarrhoea, which doctors at the time diagnosed as gastroenteritis. He continued eating three fast food meals a day and began having bloody stools and other symptoms about a month ago. Doctors removed a tumour in his lower intestinal tract earlier this month.
Orgy ends badly
The Lianjiang People's Court has sent a man to prison for eight months for organising an orgy, the China News Service reports. The court heard that in February the defendant organised a group sex session involving a woman and five of his friends. He was arrested shortly after.

Keeping tabs on hubs
A 35-year-old man from Yubei district has been taking up to eight selfies a day to let his wife know his whereabouts, the Chongqing Shang Bao reports. The man married the woman of his dreams in 2008 and they had a child. She remained at home to look after the infant and began to grow suspicious of her husband's activities outside the home. He and his wife agreed that he must take a selfie each time he goes on a business trip, several times a day, to inform her of where he is and with whom. Once, when he was too busy to do so, she threatened him with divorce.
Using his noodle
A small noodle shop has gained fame thanks to its creative cook, the China News Service reports. The cook has been entertaining patrons and passersby by making noodles up to 50 metres long, which he draws into an arc, then does a little dance before simmering the entire uncut noodle in broth.

Classmates to the rescue
A 12-year-old girl who suffered severe facial burns in a kitchen accident at home will have most of her medical bills paid by her classmates and internet users, the Yangtse Evening Post reports. Last month, the girl was cooking at home in Nanjing for her blind grandmother while her parents were at work. She got too close to a gas burner that wouldn't turn on. It suddenly ignited, burning her face. She required about 30,000 yuan in medical treatments. Her classmates donated 20,000 yuan and raised 7,600 yuan in an online campaign.
Pupils hurt in hotpot blast
Three high-school pupils have been injured at a hotpot restaurant in Nanjing, the Modern Express reports. The three were dining together last week when their hot pot burner ran out of fuel. As the staff were too busy to refill the burner, one of the pupils went out and bought some alcohol and tried to pour it into the hot stove. It exploded, leaving all three with second-degree burns.

Left waiting in the snow
A man knelt in snow for two hours outside an apartment building hoping to see his girlfriend following a quarrel, Xwh.cn reports. On Wednesday, neighbours in a small residential community in Changchun found the man wearing a fleece jacket kneeling outside in the snow. Two hours later, the 27-year-old man's sister came by to say his girlfriend hadn't forgiven him.
After-dinner treat
A restaurant patron in Changchun has turned her meal bill for 296 yuan into a 10,000 yuan windfall, the Huashang Daily reports. She won the money through a scratch-and-win prize that came with the receipt. Mainland authorities began pairing the game with official bills in 1994 in an attempt to discourage tax evasion.

Mother jumps with baby
A young mother has jumped to her death carrying her month-old-baby in Dashiqiao , the Zhengzhou Evening News reports. Bystanders saw the woman jump from the 27th floor of her apartment building early on Wednesday. Police are investigating but believe she may have been depressed after losing money on investments.
Unpaid after two years
Forty-two workers from Hubei province who worked on a construction project in Benxi are still waiting to be paid more than two years later, Xinhua reports. The workers arrived at the site in mid-2012, and by September that year were owed 1.18 million yuan. As of Wednesday, the workers had still not been paid. They complained that one government department after another denied any responsibility for recouping their wages and referred them to other agencies.

Addict beats girlfriend
A pregnant woman was beaten at a police station in Tongchuan district by her drug-addicted boyfriend, the West China City Daily reports. The couple were arguing in public when police chimed in and brought them to the station. Once there, the woman said she wanted an abortion and the boyfriend flew into a rage. He was detained after the drug Ice was detected in his urine

Wedding photos of a sports professor at the Sichuan Agricultural University and his spouse have gone viral for their romantic, sports-themed content, the West China City Daily reports. The photos show the couple working out together, with a caption saying "running with you in the spring, hiking with you in the summer, playing tennis with you in autumn and boxing with you in the winter".
