China condemns US consulate attack in Libya

Thursday, 13 September, 2012, 8:27am

China on Wednesday condemned the killing of the US ambassador to Libya and expressed shock at the attack on the consulate in which the envoy and three of his co-workers died.

“We are shocked at attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi that caused the death and injury of a number of people, including the US ambassador. And we strongly condemn the violent deeds,” foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement quoted by the official Xinhua news agency.

US ambassador Chris Stevens and three colleagues were killed in the assault on the US consulate in Benghazi late Tuesday by a mob angered by a US-made film deemed offensive to Islam.
