Taiwan's defence ministry confirmed yesterday that three retired military officers had been arrested on suspicion of leaking military secrets to the mainland in one of the island's worst espionage cases. Chang Chih-hsin, formerly the chief officer for political warfare at the navy's meteorology and oceanography office, was among those arrested, the ministry said. "Chang, who initiated contacts with Chinese mainland officials while still serving in the navy, was suspected of luring his former colleagues and making illegal gains," it said. Ministry spokesman David Lo confirmed two other former military officers had been arrested, but would not say what kind of information Chang allegedly sold to the mainland. AFP

Concerns that the Chinese version of Apple iPhone's voice-activated assistant Siri directs users to brothels has been raised by web users and lawyers. Users of the recently released Mandarin version of Siri were given several options for finding prostitutes upon request, but could not verify if the listings were accurate, the China Daily said. The service appeared to be blocked yesterday. An Apple spokesman could not be reached for comment. AFP
