China has replaced India as the top exporter of students to America in the past year, said a report released on Monday by the Institute of International Education.

The number of Chinese students studying in America in academic year 2011-2012 has increased by 23 per cent to 194,409, the Open Doors Report said.

The number of Indian students studying in America has dropped 3.5 per cent to 100,270.

A record 764,495 international students studied in the US last year. And for the first time in a dozen years, America has attracted more foreign undergraduate students than graduate students, said the report.

The University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, has the largest number of foreign students, and business and management have been the top two most favourite majors, according to the report.

New visa facilities will be built in Guangzhou to help an increasing number of applicants, said the US embassy in Beijing.
