A suspect was arrested by police after detonating an explosive device during a robbery attempt at a government dormitory building in Liuzhou, Guangxi province, yesterday, killing the city's chief planner and injuring his wife.

The official, He Bin, had tried to fight off the suspect when the device went off, according to China News Services. Police said that they found a toy gun and a knife on the suspect. Taiwan will discuss whether to deny entry to holders of new mainland Chinese passports that feature maps showing two of the island's most famous beauty spots, a top official said.
