The PLA air force yesterday said no Myanmese jets had entered Chinese territory during raids on Kachin rebels. The statement came in response to reports that Myanmese fighters had mistakenly entered Chinese air space after armed conflict broke out in northern Myanmar. According to the statement, the closest Myanmese jets had flown to the border was five kilometres. The Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that three Myanmese bombs had landed in China on December 30. Xinhua

 

Wei Hong was yesterday appointed acting governor of the southwestern province of Sichuan, replacing the outgoing Jiang Jufeng. The appointment was made at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, the local legislative body. Wei has served as Sichuan vice-governor since May 2007. The Ministry of Finance will auction 26 billion yuan (HK$31.96 billion) in five-year government bonds on Wednesday.
