'It is the truth. Yup, I'm coming...': cryptic message from Brad Pitt as he joins Weibo
Is Brad Pitt planning a visit to China?
The Hollywood superstar sparked a flurry of interest on social media sites today after he joined Sina Weibo and posted a cryptic message to his legions of fans.
"It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming…" was his first post to his 73,000 fans - and counting.
But whether it means the Fight Club actor is planning a visit to China remains unclear. And whether he would be welcomed into the country is another matter altogether since he was banned from ever entering China in 1997 following the controversy surrounding the film, Seven Years In Tibet.
The film, based on the 1952 book by Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer on his experiences in Tibet between 1944 and 1951 during World War II, was condemned by the governing Communist Party which was angered at the way it portrayed Chinese military officers. Director Jean-Jacques Annaud and actor David Thewlis were banned alongside Pitt, 49.
The actor currently has four films in post production, none of which have an obvious China angle. He is also the new face of Chanel, a brand available in China.
Pitt and Jolie are well-known for adopting children - they currently have six, three of whom are adopted - although there is no evidence to suggest they plan to adopt another.
Calls from SCMP.com to his Californian agent proved fruitless.
