A man killed two and injured 11 others including six children outside a primary school in Shanghai, police officials said on Wednesday.
The man killed two female relatives in an apartment near Jinqian Highway. He then went outside and slashed 11 people using a kitchen knife, the Shanghai police bureau said on its official account on Sina Weibo, China’s twitter-like platform. The attack took place near Jinhui Primary School at the end of the school day and six of the injured were children according to Xinhua.
The assailant was arrested and the 11 injured people, none of whom had life-threatening injuries, were sent to hospital, it said.
Police said the man, who came from Jiangsu province and arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday, killed two female relatives over a family dispute.
According to internet portal eastday.com, police officers said the suspect had not targeted students. They also said they would not rule out the possibility that he was suffering from a psychological disorder.
