A video showing a dance instructor physically and verbally abusing her students in a studio went viral on mainland social media over the weekend.

The clip, which was first posted online via video sharing site Youku, shows a female dance teacher striking students with a cane, kicking them in the torso and slapping and shoving their heads.

Titled “Video: Beijing dance teacher shocks the whole world”, the clip has been viewed more than 1.4 million times on Youku. It has also been reposted onto YouTube.

According to the People’s Daily, the video was posted onto a “foreign site” in November and had only recently been discovered on the mainland. Reports of the incident taking place in Beijing could not be confirmed.

The woman can be heard shouting at her class of female students, who appear to be aged 13 to 15 years old.

“Your mom spends 20,000 yuan a year [for your dance lessons] and what have you learned? What? Does your family have too much money to spend?” the instructor can be heard asking a student, who is driven to tears.

“How long have I been teaching you this move? Right now it looks like bullsh**,” she adds.

Angry netizens slammed the teacher as “crazy”, “immoral” and “unworthy of being a teacher” in the comments section of the video.

“This is our national character – to bow to authority and dare not resist. This is a result of a lack of love,” one user on Weibo said.
