Police arrested three suspects after discovering the drugs in a cargo container at Taichung harbour in central Taiwan on Wednesday after a tip-off, the Criminal Investigation Bureau said.

The value of the haul was estimated at around NT$300 million (HK$79 million), the bureau said.

Taiwanese authorities have been cracking down on ketamine trafficking amid concerns over the level of drug abuse among students.

Under Taiwan’s anti-drug laws, manufacturing, transporting and dealing ketamine is punishable by a minimum of five years in prison.
