Tourists visiting the Great Wall of China got more than they bargained for on Thursday when movie here Tom Cruise joined them to take in the sights.

Top Gun and Mission Impossible star Cruise, 50, was on the mainland with director Joseph Kosinski to promote their new film, Oblivion.

According to weibo users, the actor exclaimed 'I love China!' in Mandarin as he toured the ancient wall.

His visit went down extremely well with China's social media community, with one weibo user posting: “I have to hold you before I turn 20!”

Another wrote: “Why is a 50-year-old still so damn handsome?”

“I will consider watch that movie this weekend since he’s already here!”, said another.

His latest film, a sci-fi set in 2073, opens in China on Friday.

The China visit comes as it was announced that Cruise is set to produce “Mission: Impossible 5”.

The actor will reprise his long-running role as daredevil special agent Ethan Hunt in one of Hollywood’s most profitable films, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions announced on Tuesday.
