Caution: Video may be too graphic for some viewers.

A woman was crushed to death by a fully loaded trolley that slid down a slanted moving walkway after a shopper lost his grip at a Shanghai shopping mall, local media reported.

The frightening incident on Friday was captured on video by a security camera, and the clip was widely circulated on the internet. It showed a woman who appeared to be in her 60s descending on a travelator. A moment after she steps off, a cart appears from behind. She turns and notices it, but it was too late.

The cart, whose heavy load had caused it to accelerate, plunged into the woman, pushing her with such force that both disappear off camera within a second. Several men are then seen running down the walkway.

The woman died after she was taken to hospital, Xinmin Evening News reported, quoting police. Police did not give the name of the mall, but said it is on the eastern metropolis' Minfeng Road.

The trolley belonged to two cleaners who police say had brought it from home and had loaded it with 15 boxes of beverages. Trolleys at the mall are equipped with devices that immobilises them on travelators, but this one had no such mechanism, the newspaper said.

Police detained the two cleaners over negligent homicide, according to the report. They also urged shoppers to use only carts from the mall and take the elevators if their carts are heavy.
