Sichuan road accident kills 16, including 11 students
Sixteen passengers were killed in Sichuan province when a bus collided with a truck and plunged into a riverbed
The authorities in southwest China say a passenger bus collided with a truck and plunged into a riverbed, killing 16 people including 11 students.
The accident happened on Sunday afternoon in a village in Dazhou city, Sichuan province.
A statement from the local Communist Party branch says the truck overturned and the sand and cobblestones it was carrying buried the bus with 25 people on board including the driver.
An official said on Monday that the students were aged about 12 to 16. She did not give her name.
Road accidents are common in the mainland because of poor road conditions and bad driving habits.
Another accident on Sunday killed four people and injured eight when a minibus fell into a gorge in Guangxi province.
