New | Faye Wong's ex, Li Yapeng, under scrutiny over cultural foundation allegations

The civil affairs bureau in Beijing on Monday said they were “verifying the situation” of a culture foundation owned by mainland actor Li Yapeng, the former husband of pop diva Faye Wong, after the bureau received complaints alleging Li forged registration information and enriched himself through the charity.
Citizen journalist Zhou Xiaoyun launched a series of allegations in his Sina Weibo microblog last week, accusing Li of forging application information in order to register a non-public fund, Beijing Shuyuan China Culture Development Foundation, in which Li has held the post of director general since October last year.
Li has also served as the legal representative to cultural foundation Beijing Fair Spring Cultural Spreading since 2001.
According to the Regulations on Foundation Administration, the legal representative of a foundation should not serve in the same post in any other organisation.
An official from the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau said that they had arranged talks with staff from Li’s foundation and had asked for more detailed financial reports, but refused to give further information.
The mainland’s charity industry has been under scrutiny since 2011 after a young woman, Guo Meimei, who claimed to be a general manager of the Chamber of Commerce of the Red Cross Society of China, published pictures of her lavish lifestyle to her microblog, sparking an uproar across China.
