China on Wednesday called for a worldwide “warning” to Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over his visit to a contested war shrine as it took the mounting feud between the two nations to the United Nations.

China’s UN envoy Liu Jieyi said Abe’s visit to the Yasukuni Shrine last week risked taking Japan down “a very dangerous path”.

The international community must make “a warning to the fact that Abe must correct his erroneous outlook of history,” Liu told reporters at the UN headquarters in the latest diplomatic salvo against Japan.

“He [Abe] must correct his mistakes and he must not slip further down the wrong path.”

“He must correct his mistakes and he must not slip further down the wrong path,” Liu told reporters.

China has reacted with fury to Abe’s visit last week to Yasukuni which honours 14 war criminals among the country’s war dead. China and Japan also have a bitter dispute over contested islands in the East China Sea.

Liu said Yasukuni “whitewashes and glorifies aggression and trumpets a militarist outlook of history.

“It is the incarnation of militarism of Japan and also a spiritual tool to wage wars of aggression against other countries,” he added.

Liu indicated that Abe’s gesture could be a breach of the UN Charter.

“It is the duty of the international community to safeguard, by working together, the principles and purposes of the charter and to avoid any recurrence or any erroneous attitude that might take a country down a very dangerous path,” China’s envoy said.

Abe said last week the goal of his visit was “to pledge and determine that never again will people suffer in war.” The shrine is widely seen, however, as a reminder of Japan’s 20th-century aggression against China and other Asian nations.

The Japanese government since their defeat in WWII have never repented for Japan's barbaric war history. Japanese prosperity is built on the suffering of the invaded nations of Asia. Japan is an evil pariah country and should be destroyed.
the bigger the coverage in western media and at international forum to condemn abe adamant over historical deny issues and ys must be spilled over as much as possible to make a significant impact on correcting japan wrong perspective.
simple...the more the merrier and if japan goes ballistic worldwide to press their innocence...much better.
the truth is abe and co has no legs to stand on these issues and whatever they want to blah blah blah is nothing short of a pathetic platform.

No one should deny that Japan behaved appallingly during the Second World War, but to say that they are now on the warpath and about to invade China again is ludicrous.
I don't know why the Chinese are doing this. Is it to mobilise their population? I think they will find out very quickly just how many friends they have, ie not that many. The war ended nearly 70 years ago, everyone else has moved on.
I think this may be a rather subtle piece of American pressure in response to Chinese IP theft and cyber espionage on an industrial scale. Obama said there would be consequences, well, here they are.
As a nation, Japan has denied the exploitation of women in the occupied countries as comfort woman, it denied the existence of Nanjing massacre and many other atrocities in WW2. Last year during the Atomic Bomb Memorial Day at Hiroshima, its mayor had asked for apology from the American for dropping the atomic bomb on them which ended the war and saved millions of human lives of the world among them also Japanese. Japanese PM is now paying more and more visits to Yasukuni Shrine. Let us think along this line, it would not be difficult for us to figure out what the Japanese would do next. What's next is obviously More and more denials of the atrocities they have done to people of the world during WW2.

Japanese fascists didn't learn the lessons from the two atomic bombings in 1945. If any lesson they learned is that they lost because they did not have superior weapons! Shinzo Abe and the LDP don't give a **** about world opinion or for the matter the opinion of ordinary Japanese. These people were only too happy to sacrifice 1/4 of Okinawans during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. The only way to deal with these fascists is to let them join their ancestors at the Yasukuni War Shrine.
a worldwide warning for china to stop polluting planet earth !!!!! and stop claiming every place they go to as their territory - won't be long before the moon is declared china and next stop mars !
Max Diethelm
Unfortunate for the world Japan didn't totally destroy your country in WW2.
Max Diethelm
You never pollute? What about the moon and mars. What have that go to do with the territorial disputes with China. If your country can go to the moon and mars, what's stopping you. Waiting for the Chinese to do something your country cannot?
M Miyagi
Stop polluting is good. Starting with yourself. Japan will get to the Moon and Mars before China. Our kamikaze are the bravest. Don't worry Japanese will pollute your country before the Chinese get their chance.
