Hospital Authority probes man's death after medication is stopped

The death of a Caritas Medical Centre patient may have been caused by hospitals' miscommunication or problems in the medical record system, the Hospital Authority chief says.

An investigation is under way into the death of the 59-year-old patient whose coronary artery was found to be blocked on Wednesday. He died that day.

The hospital in Sham Shui Po then realised that his doctors had not given him any antiplatelet drugs - which help blood to circulate in clogged arteries - for more than a month.

The man suffered from diabetes and serious coronary disease and had had regular follow-up at the hospital's medicine and geriatric specialist outpatient clinic.

He underwent angioplasty at Grantham Hospital in Aberdeen in February and was later prescribed an antiplatelet drug. He returned to Caritas for follow-up in March and last month.

"Perhaps there were problems in communication when the patient had procedures done in a hospital and then went to another hospital afterwards," Hospital Authority chief executive Dr Leung Pak-yin said.

There could also have been problems that prevented doctors from accessing the patient's records on the authority's medical record system, he said.

The authority would submit a report on its findings in eight weeks, Leung said.

The patient was found unconscious on Wednesday and admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung. His coronary artery blood flow was restored after an emergency angioplasty, but his condition deteriorated. He died that afternoon.

The man's medical records showed that the antiplatelet drug had not been included in his prescription since March 11.

WOW, it's this not amazing HK Tax!!! ... (((The government collected HK$243.5 billion in tax in the 2013-14 fiscal year, breaking the previous year's record.))) ... I LOVE U TAX... hihihi... I LOVE U TOO RICH PEOPLE, U MAKE THIS TAX, THANK U... GOOD JOB!... (y)
U can help a lot of big problem Government! Used him (tax) well, don't spend in **** situation, to build more greedy/beauty city, but not a WELFARE CITY! Help a lot of home (not cave home 12m2), free-study till 18 year, subsidy food and dress (not label), support the poor-people for living (not abuse), Support sick/ill people with subsidy for hospital, support old people for activiteiten and voluntary work... help drugs/sex/gamble addiction kicking off the habit for more enlightenment publicity ... create more activiteiten and voluntary work for who has needs, instead going to crime/addiction... Your job (government) is to help basic necessity of life, not secondaire needs, this work is for rich people, business people... they know how they build a good luxe life or living ... they pay tax... circle round... positive act... etc... hihihi... (((support sick/ill people with subsidy for hospital))) Freedom of Speech ...
Chapter 2: z.o.z. ... Some patient going to tell a lie or don't want tell the true to doctors or hospital and some don't take exactly the pill in... they lie and say they doing exactly what the doctors say... So, how can we be sure that the patient or the doctor/hospital are handle in a good way? Take the blood off... check the basic system of the blood for sickness people, the blood will let's u see, if he don't take his medicijn in, his body and blood will missing something? Agree? Even he is liar, the blood don't lie, so, blood is first research for someone sick... I am not a doctor, but i do believe that blood will tell me some sick, even when i was pregnant, they take of my blood, to research my healthy and the baby... So, why not in HK? So Long u been sick, u must go to the blood laboratory to check out for healthy, it's more a DUTY, then a wish... even with a wrong communicatie, blood will help u to give u some information or answer... Save a lot of life, less cost, simple act, take blood off, call couple day later for result and voila... hihihi... u are healthy!!! Freedom of Speech...
I always want to ask u about the healthy of hospital in HK, are they good enough (quality) to help someone, if they are very very ill? Here, if someone very very ill, most never go to die (moment), but later (5/10/20y), but when someone go to die, most by accident (car crash, cancer), not by illness, they can hangout for along time... just like my mom live(15/20y)... Each time when she go to the hospital, first time what they doing is take off of her blood (7-9 tube), if there are something wrong with the blood, they will take the blood again and again, till u blood is good or u go to home... My mom was always very angry... she say, they are a bloodsucker... hihihi... (10-20 tube-day) ... When i was in hospital (accident) they take also my blood off (5-7 tube day), even i was not sick, they always want to know how healthy are u now (at moment). They toll me, if u blood are good, we will stop to take off u blood. That is the rule of hospital, even if u go to general practice... when u feel not very well, they take u blood off to research what is wrong. It's here very normal take off blood. I was last year also take 6 tube off, it's was good, oke, over 2 year again, say doc... (not sick)... they say, the most disease, illness, malady, sickness are will find in u blood, even u are not sickness at the moment... this is also the reason why we have here a lot of laboratory (blood)... freedom of speech... Z.O.Z.
