More than 30 foreigners have been arrested in Beijing for alleged drug trafficking, and 790 grams of drugs seized, since late February, police in the metropolis posted their official weibo account yesterday.

On Thursday, police arrested two alleged foreign dealers, one holding a student ID and the other holding a United Nations refugee certificate, outside a block of flats in east Beijing during an undercover operation, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.

The two suspects threw their belongings away as soon as they saw the police and tried to flee the scene, the local newspaper said. Several SWAT team members together with regular police brought the pair to the ground and seized 12 packets of methamphetamine (ice), ecstasy and marihuana.

The police also found a student ID and the UN refugee certificate in their belongings.

It was one of a series of drug-busting operations police have carried out in the capital since late February. The police said they had busted “multiple foreign drug gangs”, and said most of the suspects brought illegal drugs to Beijing from southern cities.
