China’s state broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV), has a long and storied history of investigative journalism, particularly with its annual March 15 Gala on Consumer Rights Day, which has been said to make companies “quake in fear” that they may be the ones targeted. 

This week, CCTV accused Bank of China, one of the country’s Big Four state-owned lenders, of laundering money for wealthy mainlanders wishing to emigrate. BOC has since hit back at the CCTV report, saying it “deviated from the facts”. Experts interviewed by the Post said the practice was “definitely not an illegal” one.
