Divorce after no sex
A court in Zongyang county  has granted a divorce to a man whose wife left him because he didn’t express an interest in sex, the Anhui Business News  reports. The couple married two months ago, but the woman grew frustrated because the husband only wanted to play with his mobile phone when they went to bed. After she left, the man immediately sought a divorce, the report said.
Public efficiency list
Wuhu  has published a list detailing the powers and responsibilities of municipal departments and affiliated institutes, the Anhui Daily  reports. The local government said that since the list was introduced five months ago, administrative efficiency had risen, with the average time to approve applications falling from 12 days to nine days.

Luxury wedding chaos
A wedding procession of 100 luxury cars in Dongguan’s  Humen town caused a traffic jam when groomsmen handed out lai see to bystanders on Saturday, the New Express reports. Traffic authorities were forced to deploy more officers to restore order after the best men started to hand out the red packets, which contained up to 100 yuan (HK$126) each. The groom started a major internet company and spent 1.5 million yuan on the wedding.
Trolley drivers ready
The first batch of trolley drivers have passed their exams and will go to work on a new line on Yuejiang Road  in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District,  the New Express reports. The two dozen drivers underwent eight months of training before taking the exam at the Guangzhou Trolley Company. Some of the employees previously worked as drivers of high-speed trains.

More ‘longevity crops’
The agricultural authority has launched a programme to produce crops with high levels of selenium,  a mineral linked to longevity, the Guangxi Daily  reports. Thirty types of crops would be planted, including rice, peanuts and tea, the report said. Guangxi  has several “longevity communities” like Bama  and Yongfu,  where many residents live past 100. Scientists have discovered the local soil is rich in selenium, and in Bama, the amount of the mineral in foods is 10 times the national average.
Worker carries ‘home’
A migrant worker in Rongan county  has been dubbed “snail brother” because he drags a small shelter along with him when he returns home from jobs in the city, Chinanews.com  reports. The contraption is made out of bamboo, plastic bags and bed sheets, and measures about 2 metres long and 1.5 metres wide. There is room enough inside for him to stand up. The man, 39, said his original mud home was unsafe. It takes him two months to journey home every year, carrying the shelter along.

Fewer living in poverty
The number of people living in extreme poverty in the region is expected to drop to 1.49 million this year, down from 2.67 million in 2010, the Northern News Daily reports. Villagers’ average annual income rose from 4,142 yuan to 7,580 yuan during the same period. The authority vowed to allocate 8 billion yuan next year to help build infrastructure and provide loans.
Students use illegal loans
University students in Hohhot  are turning to loan sharks to buy mobile phones or treat friends to dinner, the Northern News Daily reports. The monthly interest on the loans runs at least 5 per cent. One loan shark manager said students only needed to show their resident identity and student cards to receive the money.

Women barge onto flight
Two women are being investigated after they barged onto an Air China flight on Saturday, The Beijing News  reports. They said they were in a hurry to get to Beijing and their original flight had been delayed because of bad weather. After they failed to book another ticket, the pair forced their way onto the Air China flight. Police were called, and all the passengers were forced to get off so officers could check their identification.
University boss’s new role
Dr Yang Yuliang,  who stepped down as president of Fudan University a month ago, has been named director of the newly established Chinese Ancient Books Protection and Research Institute, Eastday.com  reports. Yang said his institute, which was administered by the university’s library, would offer graduate degrees in restoration studies. Yang was allegedly dismissed over a failure in rein in corruption and academic misconduct at Fudan.
Sichuan
Fined for fake alcohol
A large seafood restaurant near the South Railway Station  in Chengdu  was fined 180,000 yuan for selling fake wine and liquor, its second such offence, Newsse.org  reports. Eighty-one bottles of alcohol bearing faked labels of big name brands were seized. Local food inspection officials said they would regularly inspect the restaurant. It was previously punished in July of last year.
Elderly couple stabbed
An 18-year-old man was jailed for life for stabbing an elderly man and his wife to death in Yilong  county last year, the West China City Daily reports. The court heard the attacker ran into the couple three times at a local fair. They were smiling and seemed in high spirits, but he was frustrated because his mother had not given him any pocket money. He met them again and on a third run-in, pretended to be motorcycle driver and offered them a lift home. After listening to the elderly man praise his son, the young man erupted in anger and killed them both with a knife.

Elderly care home rule
Elderly care homes that abuse their residents will be fined up to 30,000 yuan, according to a new provincial regulation, Yunnan.cn  reports. The rule is scheduled to take effect at the end of the month. The provincial authority said the 70,000 beds available was far below demand.
Teen wedding
A 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were married in Jinping  county last, the Beijing Times  reports. Local officials said some teenagers from ethnic minorities married young after dropping out of school. Authorities are trying to encourage young people to complete their nine-year compulsory education.

Old table tennis pro
An 84-year-old man is the reining champion in table tennis at a local community centre in Hangzhou , the Today Morning Express  reports. The octogenarian said that since he picked up the sport 11 years ago, he has seldom needed to visit doctors. He played for two hours every day and the exercise had cured his heart disease and high blood pressure, he said.
Telecoms pirates
A man in Shengzhou  was sentenced to three years in jail and his wife given 161/2 years for operating equipment that illegally sent adverts to nearby mobile phone users Chinanews.com reports. The couple usually put the equipment in their car and drove to downtown areas to send out the messages. Many people found they couldn’t make a call when the car was in the area. The couple made 17,000 yuan by sending adverts to more than 300,000 mobile phone users.
