At least seven people died and 25 were injured when a red Mercedes-Benz sedan ploughed into a group of people on an overpass leading into Shenzhen Baoan International Airport on Sunday afternoon, the city’s fire department said on its official microblog.

The department said the people on the five-lane overpass were watching planes take off at the airport when the crash occurred at about 3.32pm.

At least two bodies were found on the overpass and another three on the ground below, the fire department said.

Screen captures of what appeared to be surveillance camera footage circulating online showed damage to the front of the car. The authorities did not report the condition of the driver or the other passengers.
