An unarmed Chinese auxiliary policewoman has been hailed as a heroine after being wounded while confronting a machete-wielding robbery suspect with only her bare hands, Xinhua reports.

My mind was blank at the time of the struggle – I was just thinking that the suspect should not be allowed to hurt innocent people

“My mind was blank at the time of the struggle – I was just thinking that the suspect should not be allowed to hurt innocent people,” Cao Yu, 22, who is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries in hospital, was quoted as saying by the state news agency.

The struggle took place in the commercial centre of Anshun city in Guizhou province on April 3.

A young man, who had allegedly used a rusting, 60 centimetre-long machete during a robbery in the area, was confronted by Cao as he tried to flee the scene.

Cao, who has been working on patrol alongside regular police officers since last October, was unarmed when she walked up to the suspect to question him.

He reportedly suddenly lunged at her with the machete, stabbing at her left shoulder.
