An abandoned building near a cemetery in eastern China, thought to be haunted because strange lights appeared in it at night, turned out to be small brothel, according to a media report.

The old workshop near Wenzhou in Zhejiang province was empty during the daytime, with the windows and doors sealed shut, the news website Sina.cn reported.

Villagers saw lights appear in the building in the evenings and dared not approach, according to the report.

A 58-year-old local man, whose full name was not given, said: “The factory has been abandoned for half a year. Isn’t it possible that it would be haunted?”

Villagers in the area finally told the police who discovered two prostitutes were working in the building.

Police said the women would enter the workshop at 7pm each night. A small man on an electric tricycle would then shuttle their clients to the building and keep watch, the report said.
