Driver runs over elderly Chinese man sleeping beside wife outside hotel
An elderly man died after being run over by a car while sleeping beside his wife on the ground outside a hotel in Zhengzhou city in Henan province early on Friday, provincial television reports.
The driver fled the scene. The Dahe Daily reported the police had found the suspect.
The couple rode a tricycle from a nearby village to the city to sell fruit over the weekend. To save money, they decided to bed down near the entrance of a parking lot to a hotel. They picked the spot thinking it was safe because it was monitored by surveillance cameras, the report said.
Camera footage showed the car running over the husband, 65, while the driver was turning into the car park. The vehicle is seen stopping for two seconds, then accelerating to the back of the hotel and leaving by another gate.
The wife immediately got up and ran after the car but failed to stop it. When she returned, she found her husband dead.
