Cars plunge into river after road collapses during storm in northern China

Cars plunged into a river in northern China after a section of road collapsed during torrential rainstorms, state media reported.

The river in Linfen in Shanxi province was heavily swollen by storms and a 10-metre section of road gave way at about 7am on Sunday.

Several parked cars fell into the water. There were no reports of any injuries.

Workers have been trying to retrieve the cars from the river, state television reported.

A passenger train travelling in northern China was also partly derailed during the rainstorms on Sunday, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

Two carriages of the train travelling from Xian to Beijing slid off the rails on Sunday night.

It took workers about eight hours to get the service running again. There were no reports of any injuries.
