A teenage boy urinated on the floor-button panel in a residential building lift in southern China, causing the wiring to short circuit, a local newspaper reported.

An employee of the building’s management office in Changsha, Hunan province discovered several buttons in the elevator were wet and had started to malfunction, the Xiao Xiang Chen Bao reported .

Surveillance footage showed the boy, aged about 12 or 13, urinating on the panel after he entered the lift on the 15th floor.

The lift was shut down for a full inspection after the short circuit was discovered.

“The boy was lucky he didn’t get an electric shock, or else the consequences would have been more serious,” You Xiaoming, director of the building’s management office, told the paper.

The management office was still looking for the boy, whom they said probably lived in the building.

“This kind of behaviour is dangerous,” You said. “We hope his parents can guide him in the right direction.”

The elevator was back in service after two days of repairs.
