Chinese man dies in 30m cliff fall after taking selfies beside a mountain waterfall

A Chinese man died after falling over a 30-metre cliff when he lost his footing while taking selfies beside a mountain waterfall, mainland media reports

The unnamed man’s body was discovered by a passer-by on Monday morning lying in a stream close to Longmen Waterfall near Dongbai Mountain, in Zhuji, in Zhejiang province, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.

Police recovered a selfie stick and a mobile phone beside the Zhuji resident’s body. His phone contained many photographs which he had been taking on the mountain before he fell.

The man, who was born in the 1980s and believed to be in his 30s, had gone up the mountain alone and was taking selfies near the waterfall when he fell, police said after an initial investigation.

Police have ruled out murder and concluded that he slipped over the edge of the cliff while trying to take a photograph.

The report did not say when the man was thought to have died.

The mountainous Longmen Waterfall area was known for its steep, dangerous cliffs and poor paths, police said.

They also warned tourists taking photographs in the area to take care of their personal safety.
