Chinese internet users have gone online to mock the dress sense of “China’s Warren Buffett” who was arrested on Sunday for alleged insider trading.

Xu Xiang is known as the most successful hedge funder manager in China and pictures of his arrest, with the financial investor staring into the camera dressed in a white jacket, have been widely shared online on the mainland.

The authorities in China have launched a series of investigations alleging that stock market prices were manipulated after shares plunged this summer.

Some internet users thought Xu’s Armani jacket looked more like a doctor’s white coat and wondered if he had been arrested for illegally practising medicine.

Others kept with the medical theme, asking how a dentist was capable of manipulating stock prices.

Others joked that Xu may have been accused of a crime against fashion because his crumpled, ill-fitting jacket looked so awful.
