Beijing posts near record low monthly temperatures as capital hit by big chill

Beijing is bracing itself for a freezing week ahead with temperatures falling to near record lows for November, according to media reports.
Temperatures were expected to drop to about minus 12 degrees Celsius between Thursday night and Friday morning, Qiao Lin, the chief of the capital’s meteorological observatory was cited as saying by the Beijing Morning Post.
The lowest temperature recorded in Beijing in November was on November 30, 1970 at minus 12.3 degree Celsius.

Snow began to blanket the city on Saturday and carried on into Sunday, with over 300 flights cancelled, according to The Beijing News.
Beijing International Airport closed to inbound flights on Sunday.

It reopened at 8am yesterday, the airport said on its social media account.
