A man was beaten up by members of the public in southern China when he tried to abduct a girl, state media has reported.
At about 9.30pm on December 6, the middle-aged man, dressed in a dark suit, approached the girl as she stood at the entrance gate of a residential housing complex in Chengdu city, the capital of Sichuan province, according to CCTV.
When he went to grab her, the residents rushed at him and beat him. He tried to flee with his partner in a vehicle, but was unsuccessful, the report said.

The police were called and the man was arrested. Photos circulating online showed the man with a bleeding nose. No other details were provided.
Human trafficking is rampant in mainland China, with state media reporting in 2013 that 200,000 children went missing every year. The figure was later dismissed by the central government, although it didn’t provide an alternative number.
