Young Chinese feeling on edge about environmental decline
Design students from typically polluted city devised image of themselves hanging from building’s edge to convey sense of danger young people feel about the relentless assault on nature

A group of university students from southwest China showed how far they were willing to go to raise awareness on environmental protection by taking photos of themselves hanging dangerously from the edge of a building, the West China City Daily reports on Tuesday.
The group of 10, all third year students studying Visual Communication Design at the Sichuan University of Science and Engineering in Zigong, took the photos in December last year.
According to the report, they were originally planning to take photos of Zigong city’s smog from the high-rise building but were not happy with the result.
They then found out a strong visual impact can be created by taking a batch of “cliff-hanging” photos when one of the boys’ cap got blown by the wind to the edge of the building.
After borrowing safety equipment from the school, they took the photos and edited effects afterwards.
“Although we couldn’t take photos of the smog directly, we want to use this opportunity to show the sense of danger the youth of our time feel towards environmental problems,” said Li Cong, one of the students.
