After seven decades, Chinese husband finally gets to say ‘I love you’ – in style

It’s never too late to express your love or make a romantic gesture, as an octogenarian in eastern China demonstrated when he used the lights of an entire building to spell out “I (heart) U” to his wife of seven decades on Valentine’s Day.

Dressed up in wedding suit, Qiao Dewei, 84,down to plant a kiss on the cheek of his wife, 83-year-old wife Liu Shixiu, who was sitting in a wheelchair in a beautiful white gown with a bouquet in her hands, the Qianzhou Evening News reported.

“I love you,” Qiao said, against the backdrop of a shining 218-metre tall “I (heart) U” sign made out in lights on the side of a hotel in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

“We’ve been married for 67 years,” he said. “We’ve gone through countless frustrations and difficulties, but we’ve stood by each other to this day. No matter how tough life got, we never had the slightest thought of divorce.”

But they had also never done anything romantic together, or even say “I love you” to each other.

When they were married in their hometown Chongqing all those years ago, they had no wedding any ceremony or even a certificate, let alone a suit and wedding dress.
