Classes suspended at Chinese nursery school after food past its sell-by date found in kitchen

A kindergarten in southwest China has had its operating licence suspended after parents found food past its sell-by date in the nursery school’s kitchen, according to a newspaper report.
The parents were invited to an open day at the kindergarten in Chongqing on May 6 where lectures on education were scheduled to be given and decided to take a look around, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

They found food including flour, corn, peas and raisins that were all past their sell-by date, the report said. Most should have been used or eaten by January.

Parents were unconvinced as they suspected the expired food was the cause of diarrhoea cases in some children beginning in March. They later reported the case to the food safety and education authorities.
