Protest held after grief-stricken relatives beat up five doctors following woman’s death
Hospital staff urge authorities to come down hard on attackers in China’s spate of violence against doctors

Hospital staff held a protest in southern China on Monday after five of their doctors were beaten up by angry relatives of a woman patient after she died following an operation.
The 51-year-old patient had been pronounced dead on Sunday night after the doctors at Dafeng Hospital in Guangzhou spent five hours trying to resuscitate her, Yangcheng Evening News reported.
The woman had suffered breathing difficulties and itchiness following an operation for renal failure earlier that day, according to the hospital.
After her family was informed of her death through the hospital’s management, the relatives, stricken with grief and anger, turned on the doctors.
The five doctors were beaten up, with three slightly injured in the fracas.
