A 10-year-old Chinese girl is lucky to be alive after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a pair of scissors embedded in her brain, which her angry father threw at her for not focusing on her homework, mainland media report.
Father ‘beat daughter to death for copying homework’ in Hangzhou
The unnamed girl was rushed to Shanghai Xinhua Hospital last Friday evening, where doctors operated immediately, Shanghai TV Station reported.
Doctors told the television station that the operation to remove the scissors from close to her right temple had been successful.
The girl regained consciousness on Saturday, but had lost part of her memory, the report said.
“I don’t remember what happened to me before being sent to the hospital,” the girl told a television reporter. “I only remember that I was doing my homework last night.”

Doctors said the girl was lucky to have survived because tips of the scissors had just missed piercing the main blood vessels of her brain near her right temple.
The parents of the girl were both migrant workers originally from Anhui province, but were now living in Shanghai, the report said.
The girl’s mother said that her father was a bad-tempered man, who often threw things at their two children whenever he was annoyed.
Last week he had become angry after seeing the girl occasionally playing with her younger brother while she was doing her homework, the report said.
The father then picked up the scissors lying nearby and threw them at her.
It remains unclear whether the father will be charged by police, or face any other form of punishment over the incident.
