Four people were killed on board a maritime patrol aircraft after it crashed in eastern China.

Debris from the plane was found on a mountain in islands in coastal Zhejiang province, the State Oceanic Administration said in a statement.

The plane had gone missing after carrying out a patrol in the East China Sea on Tuesday.

Two aircrew and two law enforcement officers were on board the aircraft when it crashed.

The plane came down about 23km away from Zhoushan airport.
