A village in southwest China has 39 sets of twins, with the oldest pair 89 and the youngest only nine months old, according to media reports.

Qingyan village in the Jiangjin district of Chongqing only has 367 households, but an extremely high number of twins, the China News Service reported.

The article said it was not clear why the number of twin births was so high in such a small hamlet.

But across the country an increasing number of twin babies have been born over the past decade. Doctors said it was due to more women having access to fertility drugs and treatments.
