Chinese mother escapes jail after selling her two young daughters for 32,000 yuan
A Chinese mother, who sold both of her two young daughters for a total of 32,000 yuan (HK$37,000) in 2014, escaped jailed after belatedly helping her estranged partner to rescue the children, mainland media report.
The woman, identified only by her surname, Long, sold her one-year-old daughter for 19,000 yuan in November 2014, and one month later her three-year-old daughter for 13,000 yuan, Nanning Television Station reported.
Long, from Heng county, in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, who broke up with the children’s father – identified only by his surname, Su – soon after she sold them, heard on April 23 this year that he was searching for his daughters, the report said.
She then took him to the home of the buyer of their elder child, where he found his daughter.
When he called police Long admitted selling the child and was arrested, the report said.
On April 28, Long contacted the buyer of her younger daughter, who was later rescued by the police.
The two daughters are now in the custody of their father.
A Heng county court sentenced Long to three years in prison for child abduction on July 20 – but the sentence was suspended for five years, while she is on probation, because she had helped police to rescue the children, the report said.
The report did not say why Long sold the children, when Su discovered his daughters were missing, or how long he had been searching for them.
