A man living in the city of Dali in Yunnan province has been detained for harassing a neighbour by smearing human waste on her door late at night while dressed in a ghost costume, Beijing Youth Daily reports.

The neighbour, identified only by her surname Yang, said she had been harassed more than a dozen times since January by a man who squirted glue in her keyholes and spread urine and faeces over her door, the report said.

Man threw faeces and repeatedly spat on Hong Kong estate because managers wouldn’t let him keep a dog

After Yang installed two security cameras outside her house, the man changed his unwanted visits from mornings to nights and disguised himself by wearing a ghost costume.

Security footage showed a long-haired “ghost” wearing a white mask, a white robe and red shoe covers, that walked to Yang’s house and spread body wastes on her door.

Yang reported the harassment to the police, but they were unable to locate the man.

Another night to steer clear of the haunted highway

After the man damaged Yang’s security cameras on July 25, she took her complaints online.

On July 31, police from Dali located a suspect surnamed Wang and arrested him at his home, where the police found ghost costumes, bottles believed to have been used to smash the security cameras and other tools.

Wang said he had often heard annoying knocking at his home, which he thought came from his neighbours and he believed they did it on purpose to annoy him.

Wang has been detained for 20 days for intentionally damaging property.
