Chinese electric bike thief caught after police find notebook detailing his crimes
Man kept record of his thefts in Suzhou in Jiangsu province, according to newspaper report
A man in eastern China has been arrested for stealing 10 electric bicycles after police found his notebook listing each of his crimes in detail, according to a newspaper report.
The 25-year-old man, whose full name was not given, took the bikes in Suzhou in Jiangsu province, the Modern Express reported.
The man originally came from Shaanxi province and had only been based in the city for a few months, the report said.
Police were notified of a spate of bikes thefts and after checking surveillance footage they narrowed their list of suspects down to a man wearing white clothes.
The man was caught after he called the police following his involvement in a dispute and they found the notes documenting the thefts at his home.
The notes included “stealing routes” and detailed his numerous “successes”.
The man admitted his crimes and told police he planned the thefts after he quit his job at a clothes factory.
Eight of the 10 stolen bikes were found and returned to their owners, the report said.
