Lower beds easier for bigger students to clamber into, according to college
A university in eastern China is allocating bunk beds in its dormitories to students based on how fat or thin they are, according to a newspaper article.
The Changzhou campus of Hohai University in Jiangsu province will allocate beds according to students’ body mass index, the Yangtse Evening News reported.
“We have recorded all of our first-year students’ body information such as their height and weight,” a member of staff at the college was quoted as saying.
Heavier and taller students will be given lower bunks to make it easier for them to clamber into bed, according to the article.
A freshman told the newspaper he “felt like a fat clumsy bear every time he climbed on to an upper berth” during his time in high school and felt relieved he could have a lower bunk at college.
“It’s quite humane for the school to do this,” he said.
