Chinese burglar identified and caught by DNA from his faeces

Thief defecated at the scene of a break-in in “revenge” after he found nothing worth taking

A burglar was caught in Beijing after he defecated at the scene of a break-in and police analysed his faeces to identify his DNA, according to a newspaper report.

The man broke into a house in the capital and relieved himself in “revenge” because there was nothing worth stealing, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

The faeces had enough DNA traces to identify the burglar, according to the article.

The man, whose full name was not given, committed nearly 300 crimes in the Fangshan area of Beijing, including a robbery.

He liked breaking into single-storey homes in rural areas during summer nights.

It took prosecutors two hours to read the charges against the burglar at his court hearing, the newspaper said.

His wife was quoted as saying that she was unaware of his crimes.

He has previously serviced a jail term for burglary and attempted to go straight working at a removals company, but fell back into crime, the report said.
