Bananas, eggs and a pair of naked men: online stir after nude photos at scenic Chinese temple go viral
Authorities investigating after incident at the tourist attraction in Yunnan
Officials in southwestern China have launched an investigation after photographs showing two naked men surrounded by a group of onlookers at a tourist attraction were widely circulated online, mainland media reports.
A blogger from Dali, in Yunnan province, posted several of the photos on his Wechat public account on Thursday.
They appeared to show a naked man – his private parts covered by an item of clothing – feeing a woman a banana at the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple scenic spot, news website The paper.cn reported.
Another picture showed two men roped to a tree naked and having eggs thrown at them. A blogger said one of them was a bridegroom and the other was his best man.
An official at the general office for the Chongsheng Temple area said on Thursday that the office had reported the incident to a superior department, which was looking into the details.
Based on the pictures, the incident happened in the Jinchiniao square near the entrance to the scenic spot, the official said.
Under Chinese laws, nudity in a public place is punishable by up to 10 days in jail.
A pair of lovers was held by local police for more than 10 days in May for spreading obscene information online, after a collection of photos showing them naked in Dali was widely circulated online.
