Ten dead in dawn building collapse in eastern China
Ten people died when four residential buildings collapsed in eastern China shortly before dawn on Monday.
Fifteen people were pulled from the debris, but onlyfive survived the collapse of the four multistorey buildings in the Lucheng industrial zone in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, at about 4am, Zhejiang Daily reported.
Rescuers were still verifying the number of people who were buried in debris, Xinhua said.
The victims were mainly migrant workers living there, Xinhua reported, citing a resident.
Survivor Yan Yongfa, 57, told Xinhua that he shared one room with four other workers and their boss rented the room for them. Each room in the collapsed building used to have two to three tenants, Yan said.
Rescuers said the collapsed buildings were built by villagers themselves.
The Zhejiang provincial government has set up an investigation to find out the cause of the collapse of the buildings.
