11 people killed after truck hits motorised tricycle on northern China highway
Eleven people were killed after a truck crushed head-on with a motorised tricycle in northern China, news portal iqilu.com reports.
The motorised tricycle, carrying mostly construction workers, was hit by the truck on a major road in Zaozhuang, Shandong province, on Thursday evening.
Nine people on the tricycle were killed at the scene, and two others died after being rushed to hospital, the report said.
The truck, which was carrying crushed stones, was trying to overtake other vehicles when it hit the tricycle heading in the opposite direction, a witness told reporters.
“The victims were wearing helmets. It seemed they had just finished work,” another witness was quoted as saying. “They all looked 40 to 50 years old. What a pity.”
The truck driver was taken away by police for investigation, according to the report.
